Australia's Tornado!

First came Ghost Riders, then came Waltzing Matilda, what's Next?
When Ghost Riders hit Australia, it was on a compilation album by Sony.
Everybody thought the group was from America. Most dancers and instructors
bought the album to get that one hot song--the one that everybody was dancing
to--"Ghost Riders!" Then along came a second song called "Waltzing Matilda"
by a group called Australia's Tornado! Wow, maybe this is an Australian Band
after all?
The song Waltzing Matilda was a group project created by Australia's Tornado
and a Hillbilly from Indiana named Rick. It started with playing a
diggereedoo, and hearing that "wha wha" low sound. They wanted to use it in a
song, but what song? Hmmmmm. Then it came together, wa wa waaa Waaaaaltzing
Matilda, that's what the digereedoo was saying. Together they developed this
wonderful country techno sounding type of song.
Included on the single was the story of Waltzing Matilda and a explanation of
the aussie terminology used. When researching the possible use of the song,
hundreds were asked what is a Matilda? Very very seldom, like maybe one out of
200, had any idea at all what it was. Most thought it was a kangaroo or a
lady. How is that possible? This was supposed to be Australia's number one
all time song. Why didn't the young people know what it meant? Thanks to
some caring creators, this great old song was blended with a new beat that
appealed to all ages! Here is a chance for young and old to learn the story,
a chance for Waltzing Matilda to be heard all over the world. Here is a song
that should be played at the Olympics here in Australia. This song represents
not only Australia's heritage but Australia's future, that being her youth.
With a independent release of Ghost Riders in the U.S. in September of 1997
to over 1000 country dance clubs and dj's, a seed was planted. The song Ghost
Riders climbed to number 6 on the dance charts. Wow, who is this new group,
and how did they get here? Next in May of 1998, Waltzing Matilda hit the
dance clubs not only in the U.S. but also the U K. There the double success of
these two songs lead to many inquiries from record labels about the band and
the use of the two songs.
We are pleased to announce that Australia's Tornado has signed with BMG
Germany to release both songs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These
markets represent over a 100 million people, and some very strong economies.
Germany has been referred to as the number one high energy dance market in the
world. This marks a big step in the career of a great Aussie band and also a
big step in taking the Australian history of Waltzing Matilda to the rest of
the world. There are ongoing negotiations with record labels in several other
countries to release the songs in their territories.
What's next? A new album called "Dancin' Up A Storm" which will have dances
choreographed by dancers from other countries as well as Australia. The goal
is to create truly a international album, an album for the whole world to
dance to.
